Cranbourne trainer Doug Harrison continued his lethal form at Moonee Valley when Queen Delight completed a double for the stable at Wednesday’s meeting.
Harrison had trained six winners from 15 runners at Moonee Valley this season before his latest double strike, which took his strike rate at the venue to 47 percent in 2013/14.
The stable enjoyed a profitable period at the track late in 2012 but Harrison was thrilled to see racing return to the course after a six-week break on Wednesday.
“We were having a great run here in early spring to summer with all our horses, coming back with it (Moonee Valley) opening up again and a double today, it’s great,” Harrison said.
Alrouz opened the day in perfect fashion for Harrison when she scored a strong on-pace win with apprentice Ben Knobel aboard in the Essendon Hyundai i30 Rating 78 Handicap (2040m).
Alrouz hit the front before the home turn but was able hold off the runner-up Devonshire Duke and King Manu
Queen Delight had a tougher midrace passage but managed to post her fifth win from 21 starts in the Essendon Hyundai Elantra BM89 Handicap (1000m).
A wide gate consigned Queen Delight to a wide run throughout the $35,000 contest but the daughter of Lago Delight fought hard to beat Johannapine narrowly while Hadronica was third.
“It was a great ride from Dwayne Dunn,” Harrison said. “You generally see her up near the front but she’s just lost that little bit of pace.
“It’s good to get her back (to winning form) because she’s been a pretty smart galloper. It was a great win.”
Congratulations to the owners of both terrific horses.
