Smart three-year-old Falcent convinced Group 1-winning jockey Craig Williams of his abundant ability with his easy win in the No Fuss Catering Maiden Plate (1200m) at Ballarat.

Falcent showed plenty when second to the subsequent city winner Lankan Rupee on debut at Cranbourne on September 6 before going one better at Ballarat.

The son of Falkirk showed terrific pace first-up and did the same at Ballarat, giving Williams the chance to control the speed from barrier two.

Falcent displayed a high cruising speed through the middle stages of the race, leaving plenty in the tank for his dash to the finish once he straightened.

The gelding lengthened impressively at the 300 metres, putting three lengths on his opposition, before Williams eased him down late, giving Falcent’s opposition to get within two lengths.

Williams said Falcent would win better races than the $15,000 affair but was unlucky to run into a smart sprinter on debut.

“He’s a really nice horse,” Williams said. “Doug said he had a really nice horse. He ran into a good maiden and a good horse of Mick Price’s.

“He’s going the right way. He certainly win in town.”

Falcent’s win took his earnings to more than $13,000 from his two outings.
