Sale specialist Tycoon Rob gave his owner a terrific boost when he posted his latest victory at the Gippsland venue in the Eastcoast Plumbtec Traralgon Showcase BM78 (1733m).
Tycoon Rob had won twice and recorded another five minor placings before his latest success at Sale, after which trainer Doug Harrison paid tribute to terrific stable supporter Rob Thorne.
“It’s terrific for Rob Thorne, who owns the horse. He hasn’t been well so I’m hoping it gives him a good kick along,” Harrison said. “He’s got four horses with us, Galileo Gold as well and a couple of younger ones.
“He’s been a good supporter of mine and it will be a great tonic for him.”
Thorne’s great performer had little luck at Benalla on September 10 before improving quickly to score on his favourite track with 3kg-claiming apprentice Jake Bayliss aboard.
Bayliss positioned Tycoon Rob behind the surprise front-runner Quick Bond early in the $30,000 contest before the son of Undoubtedly overpowered the front-runner in the straight to score by a short-neck.
The Sale success was the third time Bayliss had teamed with Tycoon Rob for a win and Harrison was thrilled with the young jockey’s handling of the six-year-old.
“Last start at Benalla, he (Tycoon Rob) just got cluttered up behind the leaders,” Harrison said. “He just loves that space and he loves this kid.”
“He (Bayliss) has ridden a few winners for me and I think they really go well for him. It was good Jake took the sit today and it worked out great.”
The Sale victory was Tycoon Rob’s eighth from 47 starts and the $18,000 winner’s cheque took his earnings to more than $117,000.
Congratulations to Rob Thorne.
