Cranbourne trainer Doug Harrison is heading to Randwick on Saturday for, in his own words, “an adventure”.
Harrison is taking two runners for the Kensington meeting – two-year-old Tudor and It’s Crunch Time – who hasn’t raced for a year.
Trying to avoid wet tracks with both horses, Harrison explained to Racing Network today how he has finished up with both horses in Sydney.
“I originally had them entered for Adelaide but it started raining there and that will end up here in Melbourne, so the best place to find a firm track is in Sydney, so we’re off there for a bit of an adventure,” he told RN this morning.
It’s Crunch Time will run in the $85,000 July Sprint (1150m) and he is a horse with a very handy record.
He’s won six races from just 16 starts, including the Listed $90,000 Newmarket Handicap in Launceston in Tasmania.
“He did some damage to a ligament and just needed time.
“We’ve given him that time and he seems fine now,” Harrison said.
“He’s had two official trials and gone well in both and he’s ready to go to the races.
“I’d be surprised if he wasn’t competitive and didn’t run a very good race on Saturday,” Harrison said.
“He’s a pretty handy horse.”
Harrison also says Tudor has a good record and will appreciate getting back on top of the ground on Saturday when he runs in the $85,000 TAB Early Quaddie Handicap (1150m) – the opening race on the program.
